It was a night of celebration for the Conservative Party in Baldwinsville this 2013 election night. All open seats were swept up by the party for both the town of Lysander and the town of Van Buren. In addition to the party’s election success, history was made in Lysander by newly elected Town Councilor, Roman J. Diamond. At age 21, he became the youngest town councilor to be elected to Lysander Town Council.
When Mr. Diamond was asked about what it feels like to be part of a historic moment, he said: “This is exciting and I am honored to be a part of this moment. We’ve been campaigning since June and it is exciting to be involved in today’s event. I sincerely believe that young people need to be more involved and concerned with the politics of their community. I am glad that I can be an example and show the positive input that young people can offer to support and celebrate our community”.
The sentiment of being committed to the community was shared by elected town of Van Buren Town Councilor, Darcie L. Lesniak. Ms. Lesniak stated: “It is my goal to continue to improve upon my party’s proven track record of success in Van Buren. I am passionate about this community and doing my part to support the people of Van Buren, helping to make it the best place it can possibly be. I feel very fortunate to have run for town councilor here”.
While many positions were uncontested in this election year, it is apparent that incoming incumbents will not be relaxing now that the election is over and while they wait to be sworn in this coming January. In preparation for his new position Mr. Diamond stated: “My work is just beginning. I will be preparing for being sworn into office in January by making sure I am aware and prepared for all the matters and issues we need to be addressing as the new term starts. This is the time to thoroughly educate myself on all matters involving the town of Lysander, to ensure that I can fulfill my role as town councilor to the best of my abilities”.
