Brothers beat J-D, wins Class A boys soccer title

Stroman hits game-winner for CBA in 2-1 classic

— Less than four minutes into the first of two 15-minute overtime periods, J-D fouled Paul Civello with 11:40 left in the first overtime period. From there, Stroman’s kick decided the game.

When Papaleo saw some of J-D’s players on the goal line, he knew the Rams put a player right in front of Sawyer to screen his vision. So he placed Steve Castellini directly in front of Sawyer. From there, he told the group of Stroman, Chrisman and Zajdel to choose among themselves which player was feeling the best in that situation.

“Alex (Chrisman) is left-footed, Zach (Zajdel)’s right-footed and Monte (Stromen) just kicks it as hard as he can," Papaleo said. "And they went with the hardest they can.”

Luckily for the Brothers, the hardest shot was the difference - and CBA found itself with a sectional banner and a date against Section II champion Averill Park in the regional round early next week.
