A near-sweep of the field events keyed the Jamesville-DeWitt girls track and field team’s climb to the top in Tuesday’s Onondaga High School League Freedom division championship meet at Fulton.
All told, the Red Rams earned 145 points, with Homer not too far behind with 113 points for second place. East Syracuse-Minoa (71 points) was third as CBA, with 57 points, slid into fifth place.
Tangela Hightower won both of the throwing events, going 96 feet 4 inches in the discus and 29’9 ¾” to gain first place in the shot put. Salwa El-Hindi was third in the shot put with 28’8 ½” as Brooke DeRoberts took fourth (89’9”) in the discus.
Taylor-Rae Danforth rose to clear 10 feet in the pole vault, winning that event as DeRoberts again finished fourth.
Patrece Martin won, too, for J-D, as she went 35’7 ¼” to take the triple jump, with Mackenzie Maxam sixth, and added a third (15’9 ¼”) in the long jump. Toria Carter was fourth in the high jump.
Rachel Fairbanks won the oval for the Rams, beating the field in the 800-meter run in 2:18.14, with teammate Laura Wengert (2:29.31) in fourth place. McKenzie Kallquist earned 1,852 points in the pentathlon, putting her in second place behind Mexico’s Alicia Pratt (2,056 points), with ESM’s Kim Donato (1,312 points) in third place.
Allison Semmel got second in the 400 hurdles in 1:11.78 as Fairbanks, Wengert, Emilee Carpenter and Katie Pinkes were second (10:23.63) in the 4x800 relay, ahead of ESM (10:32.52) in third place as Homer prevailed in 10:12.58.
Nina Zesky gave ESM another victory in the high jump, clearing 5’3”, her best height of the season, and also was second (15’10”) to Homer’s Jekeytha Adkins (16’4”) in the long jump.
ESM’s Gabby Pallotta would get the victory in the 3,000-meter run, her time of 11:08.73 more than 17 seconds clear of the field that included CBA’s Emily Garlatti (11:44.72) in third place. J-D teammates Samantha Jaffe and Hannah Stefl were fourth and fifth, respectivel.
