The Fennell Street corridor has the highest density of population in the village. The apartment building in the back of the post office and the Village Landing Apartments sit within a few feet of the former community siren. The frequency of its noise is considered an unnecessary annoyance. It went off as often as six or seven times in a 24 hour period. Elderly with sleeping problems were awakened; those who are ill were constantly disturbed; TV shows were temporarily interrupted; phone calls had to be put on hold; you had to keep windows closed to lessen the noise; it actually would hurt your ears and conversations were halted while the noise persisted. That is annoyance without a necessary purpose.
Come on fire guys and gals. Is the need honestly as great for the community siren as great as you are stating? Or has it just gotten “out of hand” a little bit during discussions. Is it worth making lives miserable for those living near the siren? Think about it. We appreciate you people.
