Beaver Lake Nature Center – May activities

— Let's Pretend

Beaver Lake Nature Center invites children 3 to 5 years old, accompanied by an adult, to learn about animals that live at Beaver Lake by acting out how they behave. Each session in the new "Let's Pretend" series includes a craft and outdoor activities. I’m a Beaver will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 8, and 10 a.m. Saturday, May 11; I’m a Great Blue Heron will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 22, and at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 25. For each session, choose a Wednesday or a Saturday; $5 per child, per session.

Trail tales

Preschool-age children, accompanied by an adult, are invited to gather at Beaver Lake Nature Center for the popular Trail Tales program at 1 p.m. Thursdays, May 9 and 23. A naturalist reads two stories to the children and then leads the group on a hike themed to match the stories. This program is free with admission.

Guided weekend walks

Beaver Lake Nature Center invites visitors to join a naturalist for a guided weekend walk at 2 p.m. every Saturday and Sunday in May, free with admission. Topics for each weekend's walks are: Foxes and Coyotes May 11 and 12; Salamanders and Frogs May 18 and 19; and Ospreys and Eagles May 25 and 26.

Creative Cartographers

At 1 p.m. Saturday, May 11, Beaver Lake Nature Center invites grade school children to become Creative Cartographers as they join a naturalist to create unique maps. Beyond trails and trees, they'll learn how to map the sounds of the forest using codes and colors. $6 per child; registration required. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Daytrip to Ithaca's Waterfalls

On Wednesday, May 15, visit the waterfalls and gorges of the Ithaca area with a group led by a naturalist from Beaver Lake Nature Center. Participants should bring a lunch, water bottle, sunscreen and camera, and be ready for a beautiful day climbing challenging trails for stunning views of Ithaca's Waterfalls. The van will leave Beaver Lake Nature Center at 8 a.m. and will return as late as 5 p.m.; registration required, $30 per person.
