Huba has lived in Skaneateles with her husband and three children since 2003. She is currently works part-time as collections manager at the Seward House Museum. She has volunteered with the elementary, middle school and high school PTC groups, Waterman/State Street/middle school libraries, Parent Representative on the Horizons Committee, the Preschool Learning and Readiness Program/Project Star, the Wellness Task Force, School Improvement Team, Music Boosters, Art Shows and Chess Club. She has also been a member of the Skaneateles Music Guild, Lakeshore Softball and Baseball Board and Holy Trinity Preschool Board -- including president for three years.

Why did you decide to run for the school board? “Because of my prior volunteer experience I feel that I am ready and prepared now after 10 years of volunteering at all the schools in a variety of capacities, covering not just the academics, but art, music, preschool readiness, wellness, horizons, sports, I’ve really done all of them … but the main reason is because I want to be involved with the hiring of a new superintendent.”

Are there any specific issues you want to address if elected to the board? What are your thoughts on the superintendent search? “We are facing difficult challenges coming because of the declining enrollment, because of the state mandated costs we have no control over. We want to maintain the excellence in our district and the opportunities that are afforded our kids in this district, how are we going to do that when our numbers are going down? We don’t want to make the costs go up for people, but people expect things from this district. We moved here because there is such enrichment and it has had to be cut into over the years and I understand that and I respect the efforts that previous boards and administrations have done, but I think we’re looking at some very serious changes coming up and I want to be involved in planning for that.”

“I think the person in charge of that [planning for the future], the superintendent, is key to making it work, so I think I’m ready now and I think I have the skills and the knowledge to help be a part of the process.”
