Girls track Lakers roars past Jordan-Elbridge

Caz to square off with Skaneateles for first place on Monday

Continuing to set the pace in the OHSL Liberty National division, the Cazenovia girls track and field team piled up high finishes and points in last Wednesday’s meet against visiting Jordan-Elbridge, stopping the Eagles 106-35 while also beating Norwich 110-31.

This set up Monday’s first-place showdown at Buckley-Volo Field between Cazenovia and Skaneateles, with both Laker sides unbeaten and the winner likely to grab the National division crown, though Cazenovia has another meet with Hannibal just two days later.

Liz Pittman swept to victories in three field events, going 16 feet in the long jump and soaring 31 feet 10 ½ inches in the triple jump before clearing 8 feet to prevail in the pole vault.

Megan Stanford tied Tori Fischer in the high jump, each clearing 4’6”, before she went to the 400 hurdles and won that event in 1:14.9. Lizzy Bigsby was victorious in the 100-meter hurdles (17.7 seconds), with Jeanette Cudney getting a 3,000-meter title in 11:28.2.

Less than a week removed from her pair of victories in the April 26 Chittenango Invitational, Ashley Winn went 12.5 seconds in the 100-meter dash and 26.3 seconds in the 200-meter dash.

Winn, Pittman, Ashley Kent and Jess Macheda won the 4x100 relay (52.7 seconds) as Stanford, Maria Stalder, Evelyn Wells and Bailey Forrett needed 4:34.1 to cover the 4x400. Cudney and Stanford, joined by Maria Stalder and Colleen Stalder, claimed the 4x800 relay in 10:21.2.

Cazenovia’s boys team lost to Norwich 71-62 and J-E 87-54, this despite a trio of victories from Walker Nichols. After winning the 110 high hurdles in 17.3 seconds, Nichols unleashed an 18-foot long jump and also claimed the high jump by clearing 5’4”. Nick Petroff won the pole vault, clearing exactly 10 feet.

As this went on, Chittenango lost its league meets to Westhill/Bishop Ludden, falling 84-57 on the girls side and 117-25 on the boys side.
