Pray for America on May 2

— The 62nd Annual National Day of Prayer will take place Thursday, May 2. Millions will unite in prayer at thousands of events from coast to coast. This year’s theme, “Pray for America,” is based on the verse from Matthew 12:21 that reminds us that “In His name the nations will put their hope.”

The National Day of Prayer tradition predates the founding of the United States of America, evidenced by the Continental Congress’ proclamation in 1775 setting aside a day of prayer. In 1952, Congress established an annual day of prayer and, in 1988, that law was amended, designating the National Day of Prayer as the first Thursday in May.

In honor of this day, the sanctuary of the First Presbyterian Church of Cazenovia, 27 Albany St., will be open for prayer and quiet meditation from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday, May 2. Please set aside seven minutes to pray for the Seven Centers of Power: government, military, media, business, education, church and family. May God bless America.
