COLUMN: Library Focus - Learn about wastewater and your river May 8

— Now that spring has finally arrived it’s time to celebrate and we have just the tickets with a special appearance of Morris Dancers on May Day, craft programs of all kinds, prep courses for the SAT and summer job hunting and of course our annual Teen Photography Show.

Pull thread, not hair

The Pulling Threads group gets together from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 1 and May 15 this month to work on quilts, sewing projects, crochet, whatever you're interested in. Tables are available to lay out your work and no registration is needed.

Dancing for summer

Kick off the summer season with a jolt of tradition from 11 a.m. to noon Wednesday, May 1, as the Morris Dancers of Syracuse drop in to celebrate May Day with song and dance. These colorful dancers clash sticks, wave hankies and jingle bells on their legs. The dancers will be outside if the weather is good and in Community Room 1 if it is cold or rainy.

Step into the theater of the mind

Discover some of the treasures of the past at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 1, as Wired Wednesday dedicates an afternoon to a tour of the website, archives.org, a fantastic collection of many of the great radio programs of the past. Signup at bville.lib.ny.us for this class to learn how to access them when you want to step back to the good old days.

Free SAT prep course

Are you taking the SAT on May 4 or in June? Come get a swift overview of what to expect and how best to prepare from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, May 2. The class is free but registration is required. Sign up on our website at bville.lib.ny.us.

Friday Tech Drop In

Bring us your smartphones, ereaders and laptops that you are yearning to use freely, but have not quite figured out yet, and we will do our best to help set you on the road to mastery from 10 a.m. to noon every Friday in the computer classroom.
