B’ville bike safety program set to start

— The Baldwinsville Police Department, along with the Baldwinsville Optimist Club and Steven Ladd, of Liberty Mutual Insurance Camillus Office, are pleased to announce the assembly and rodeo schedule for the 2013 Bicycle and Pedestrian Safety Program. As in past years starting in 1980, each elementary school will be visited by police officers who will demonstrate safe bicycle riding practices and give safety tips.

Each school’s assembly program will be followed by a rodeo for first through fifth graders in which the winners will then have the opportunity to compete at a Grand Rodeo with the possibility of winning three new bicycles. The rodeos place an emphasis on the skillful and safe riding by the students, not on trick or fast riding. There will be bike locks awarded to the top finishers and everyone that participates will receive a prize along with refreshments.

In the event of rain, each school will announce a rain date prior to dismissal. The rodeos will start at 4:30 p.m.at their school unless otherwise noted with a student registration being accepted through the end of the event. Any questions should be directed to the student’s school or the Baldwinsville Police Department at 635-6808.

Elden Elementary School will hold an assembly May 3 and the rodeo on May 7 (rain date May 9).

Palmer Elementary School will hold an assembly May 3 and the rodeo on May 6 (rain date May 9).

Van Buren Elementary School will hold an assembly May 8 and the rodeo on May 15 (rain date May 18).

St. Mary’s Academy will hold an assembly and rodeo on May 15 (rain date May 18).

Reynolds Elementary School will hold an assembly and rodeo on May 16 (rain date May 17).
