Students on Peru trip upset by comments

LETTER TO THE EDITOR

To the editor:

Students who traveled to Peru with the high school are very upset about some of the comments made regarding the trip. Yes, it was very upsetting that the plans were changed due to a possible threat, but the school and Mr. Dubik did an excellent job changing the itinerary so that we could still have a fun trip and an authentic cultural experience.

The most upsetting comment was the accusation that our chaperones lacked supervision of us. Throughout the entire trip our chaperones were always very close to us and continually checked in with each and every student. Even while in the market, we stayed in groups of three or more and our teachers would check up on us. The free time spent at the market was also part of our original itinerary and both parents and students were aware of this months ahead of time.

Our trip may have not proceeded exactly as we originally planned, but we all had a really great experience with our friends. Learning to go with the flow and be flexible is an important lesson for us to learn to prepare us for our futures.

We would like to thank Mr. Dubik, Mr. Furlong, our parents and our chaperones for helping to make our trip a success.
