DeRuyter couple found deceased in residence

— A DeRuyter husband and wife were found dead this past Sunday by New York State Police troopers who visited to the couple’s home in response to a request to check on their welfare.

On Sunday, March 24, at approximately 10:30 p.m., state police in Morrisville were called to check on the welfare of a woman at a residence on Seminary Street in the village of DeRuyter, Madison County.

When troopers arrived at 1599 Seminary Street, they met with a family member who advised them that Michele J. Green, age 48, didn't show up at work Sunday morning and wasn't able to contact her via phone. Family members requested that the troopers make a forced entry.

Troopers pried open a rear door at the residence and observed a white male, Edward G. Green, age 48, with a shotgun in his hand standing in the kitchen. Troopers immediately exited the house and cleared family and friends from the area and set up a perimeter. Shortly after that, they heard a gunshot.

At 4:30 a.m., the New York State Police Special Operations Response Team gained entry into the residence and discovered the bodies of Michelle and Edward Green deceased from an apparent gunshot wound.

The investigation is continuing.
