Skaneateles Fire Department March update

February 2013:

Fire: 5

Rescue: 3

EMS: 5 (SFD responds when SAVES is on another call)

Water Rescue: 0

Mutual Aid: 11 (SFD responds to another fire district)

Total calls for February: 24

Total calls for 2013: 48

Please note that the dedicated members of the SFD have responded to 35 fewer alarms this year in comparison to last year’s responses during the same time frame.

In addition to responding to emergency calls, SFD members continued to train and prepare for any scenario they may face when the pager sounds and the siren goes off (hopefully). Nineteen members of the SFD, as well as numerous member of the Mottville Fire Company, successfully completed the New York State Fire Prevention and Control’s Strategy and Tactics for Initial Company Operations sponsored by the Onondaga County Department of Emergency Management. This particular course was held for four consecutive Mondays, three hours each night, for a total of 12 hours, to develop the management skills needed by Company Officers to accomplish assigned tasks at structure fires.

At the present time, approximately 300 of the 1,000 tickets for the new “High Stakes” raffle (formerly “BIG Money” drawing) have been sold. Tickets for the new “High Stakes” raffle are still available from any firefighter or online at skanvfd.com. $100 drawings will be held monthly beginning in April until the “High Stakes” raffle drawing on Aug. 3 at the Skaneateles Fire Department’s inaugural Casino Night at the Austin Park Pavilion. We hope to see you there and thank you for your continued support.
