— The Skating Club of Central New York's synchronized skating teams had a very successful 2013 season. There are four teams at the club: two beginner teams "Icicles" & "CNY Chill", a pre-juvenile team "CNY Storm" and an open juvenile team "CNY Blizzard". Skaters’ ages range from five to 18 years and live in and around the Syracuse area and practice in Cicero.

The pre-juvenile and open teams travelled to six competitions this year including competitions in Stamford, CT and Cape Cod, MA. Either the CNY Storm and CNY Blizzard teams won a medal in every venue. All teams are coached by Carolyn Quinn.

The competition year came to a close last week, but the highlight of the season was competing at the 2013 Eastern Synchronized Skating Sectional Championships. Over 150 synchronized skating teams from the Eastern zone met at Lake Placid from Wednesday Jan. 30 to Saturday Feb. 2. Synchronized skating teams arrived from 13 states and there were 28 teams participating from New York State alone.

In this prestigious competition, hosted this year by the Lake Placid Figure Skating Club, the CNY Storm skated against 25 other teams in their level and, after competing in the finals, won second place. CNY Blizzard competed against 27 other teams in their level and placed sixth in the finals.

The excitement continued as the following weekend the two teams returned to Lake Placid with the CNY Chill team and competed in the Empire State Games. This time, the pre-juvenile team won first and went home with gold. The open juvenile team and beginner teams also did well and both received a second place medal.

The CNY Blizzard and the CNY Storm have been invited to compete at the State Games in Hershey, PA this summer.

The Skating Club of Central New York is scheduled to hold tryouts for the 2013-2014 season in April. Please refer to their website, sccny.org for further information.
