LETTERS: Parents are root of prejudice

— I found the opinion letter from the "concerned citizens" very upsetting. How hypocritical of you to say you are in favor of stopping bullying and prejudice in our schools and yet you were upset about including gays. Now we know where prejudices in our children come from, don't we. I can't believe you are so naive as to think your children are "too young" to be exposed to this. As soon as a child reaches puberty their sexual preferences start to show. If you don't talk openly to your child about this they will continue to feel this is a bad thing. The child who starts to feel these tendencies will be afraid and ashamed to admit it to you or anyone else, which causes them severe traumatic emotional problems. So many young teens even commit suicide because they feel there is something terribly wrong with them. It's parents like yourselves who are the root of our children’s prejudices.
