continued In 2012, Rick and Lorie Schneider remembered their son, Marine Cpl. Kyle Schneider, by awarding a memorial scholarship in his honor. Kyle was a Baker High School graduate who was killed by an IED in Afghanistan in 2011.
“The memorial scholarships allow everyone that heartwarming moment to simply be together as a community and remember,” Bertrand said.
This year’s scholarships will be awarded during the traditional Moving Up Day ceremony scheduled for Friday, May 24, at the Pelcher-Arcaro Stadium.
“I believe that Baldwinsville is a very uniquely connected community and the Moving Up Day Ceremony is a very moving and proud day for Baldwinsville,” Bertrand said. “We recognize the accomplishments of students through memorial scholarships and through scholarships generously awarded by local businesses and organizations.”
The average scholarship awarded is $1,000 and can range anywhere from $1,000 to $5,000. To be eligible for a BCSF scholarship, students need to fill out an application at the Baker High School Career Resource Center (this year’s deadline was Feb. 14). The student must also be planning to attend a two-year, four-year, business or vocational school and qualify to be a recipient of particular scholarships and awards.
