Maple Downs raises funds for ‘Outward Bound for Veterans’ program

— Holiday Retirement, the corporation that owns Maple Downs, has over 300 retirement communities across the United States and Canada. All 300 are trying to raise $4,000 by Veteran’s Day, and considering it costs $2,000 to send someone through the program, hundreds of veterans could be participating for free.

The “Outward Bound” program is geared towards veterans of the Gulf and Iraq Wars, so none of the seniors living at Maple Downs have actually participated in the program. But Binsley said Maple Downs would love to hear from anyone in the community who has had their life impacted by the program.

“We know it’s a great program, but if we knew of someone who had actually participated and benefited from it, that would be great,” she said. “We’ve just started reaching out to try and find someone.”

Maple Downs plans to hold the same fundraiser later this summer at both the Armory Square and Franklin Square Freedom of Espresso locations.
