North Syracuse budget approved

— North Syracuse Central School District voters have agreed to the district’s revised 2013-2014 school year budget proposal with a 58 percent approval. More than 5,600 votes were cast, with the final tally being 3,329 yes votes and 2,365 no votes on the $143,525,985 proposal. The approved budget proposal includes a tax levy increase at the district’s tax levy limit of 3.45 percent.

The district’s original budget proposal, which called for a 5.33 percent tax levy increase, was defeated on May 21. Because the original proposal was above the district’s tax levy limit, a super majority (60 percent) of voter approval was required. The budget proposal received only 54 percent approval. In response, the Board of Education adopted a new budget that is $1.2 million lower and at the district’s tax levy limit of 3.45 percent.

“I can’t thank our community members enough for taking the time to vote today," said Superintendent Dr. Kim Dyce Faucette. "The district and community needed this ‘yes’ to get us going on the right track and we are so grateful that our families came out to support us as we strive to give our students the educational opportunities they deserve.”
