Along the Lakeshore: June 5

Thunderstorm wreaks havoc on trees

I’m sure the recent tornados and Hurricane Sandy will cause homeowner’s insurance increases all over the country. It is a national market and, when high density places get bashed, the averages get pushed up everywhere to spread the risk. That’s the basic basis of all insurance. It gets even worse when many insurance companies withdraw from places like Tornado Alley in Florida, and other coastal regions. It is unreasonable for relatively small, unaffected areas like Upstate New York to have to carry a part of the load. Hopefully, it will be a tiny part.
