Minoa keeps tradition alive with annual Field Days

— “It gets very competitive,” said Erard. “There’s a lot of trash talking, but it’s all in fun.”

This year, the East Syracuse Fire Department was named county champions of Minoa Field Days. Other participating departments include Solvay, Tully, Warners and Hinsdale.

But more than anything else, Erard sees it as an event to bring together the community that exists within the Eastern suburbs. Without their support, the fire department would not still be holding the event today.

“Some people call it an ESM reunion,” he said. “On Friday night, everyone’s having a good time, saying ‘I haven’t seen you since last year!’ and that’s what we do- just have a good time.”
