Friends of Lorenzo annual Garden Gala to feature sneak preview of new costume exhibit

— Since 1983, The Friends of Lorenzo have undertaken the restoration of the formal Ellen Shipman garden at Lorenzo. In celebration of the garden’s splendor each spring, The Friends host an annual Garden Gala to raise awareness of the historic landscape at Lorenzo and raise funds in support of their efforts.

This year’s event will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, June 14, and will feature light hors d’oeuvres and wine. Guests at the gala will be treated to a sneak preview of the new costume exhibit opening in the mansion, “From Bustle to Bodice: Layers of Elegance at Lorenzo.” Full-length replicas of the dresses worn by Lorenzo owners Helen Clarissa Lincklaen and her daughter, Helen Lincklaen Fairchild, for their portraits will be on view, and displays also will include illustrations and examples of servants’ clothing, undergarments, children’s costumes and accessories from Lorenzo’s historic collections.

The gala will also feature the drawing of the winner of a catered dinner for eight in the gardens at Lorenzo. Raffle tickets for this prize are $10 per chance.
