Manlius Due to construction, the parking lot for the district office building of the Fayetteville-Manlius School District will be closed to all traffic July 24 through Aug. 7.
The parking lots near F-M High School will be open for district office employees and community members visiting the district office building, located at 8199 East Seneca Turnpike, Manlius. Parking will also be available at F-M High School for anyone who wants to use the track. This includes any sports camps or other facility use.
The parking lot is being expanded to accommodate more vehicles, improve traffic flow and make safer F-M High School student drop-off and pick-up. The new lot will have an improved traffic flow and 100 additional parking spaces.
From July 24 through Aug. 7, the parking lot’s existing entrance/exit will be eliminated and a new one to the expanded lot will be constructed closer to Northgate Road. The lot will be closed again for final paving at a later date to be announced. Construction is expected to be completed by the start of school, Sept. 3.
One of the district’s goals in developing the project was to create more distance between the F-M High School exit and the district office parking lot entrance/exit. The current proximity of the two curb cuts, which are about 100 feet apart, poses a safety issue, Superintendent Corliss Kaiser has said. Once the project is complete, the curb cuts will be more than 550 feet apart.
The district worked closely with the state Department of Transportation in determining where to place the curb cut for the expanded parking lot to minimize any traffic impact on the Academy Hill neighborhood, which is on the opposite side of Route 173 from the expanded parking lot.
