Erie Canal Museum to begin Monday Fun days

Aug. 12: People traveling on the Erie Canal faced hours and days of free time and had to find new activities to amuse themselves every day.  Join us for an afternoon of fun and games as we learn and play some of the most popular games of the nineteenth century.

Aug. 19: Come help Jim Devine and his mule Monkey navigate their way through the Erie Canal Museum.  Help them complete their journey through the Erie Canal and its history and, in the process, become an expert historian!  A special prize waits for you at the successful completion of your journey.

Aug. 26: One of the most important and time-consuming tasks on the Erie Canal was food preparation.  Everything, including butter, had to be made by hand from scratch.  Make your own butter and to experience an aspect of everyday life on the canal.  Then, after all your hard work, relax with some tea and enjoy the fruits of your labor.

Monday Fun days are part of the new summer programming for families offered by the Erie Canal Museum. These events are designed to introduce local families to the Museum and to interest children in history and the Erie Canal through fun, hands-on activities.  New events and activities every week will offer children the chance to learn about and connect with their community, its culture, and its past while having fun with their families.
