Two burglaries, one a home invasion, prompts warning from county sheriff

— Madison County Sheriff’s Deputies are investigating two daytime burglaries that occurred Wednesday, Jan. 30, in the Madison County Town of Sullivan.

The first burglary occurred just before 1:30 p.m. on Route 173, just west of East Lake Road in Sullivan. The homeowner called 911 reporting the residence was broken into while the owner was in another location of the dwelling. Forced entry was made through a side door by the perpetrator, described as a dark or olive skinned male.

The perpetrator fled the scene in a metallic golden/antelope color mid-size four-door sedan being operated by another suspect, for whom police do not have a description. The vehicle had the new style blue and gold New York license plate on the rear of the vehicle and no plate on the front. Taken from the home was an Apple i-Mac computer and an external hard-drive.

The second burglary was reported to the Madison County 911 center at 4:50 p.m., when a homeowner returned home from work and found the front door to the residence, located in the 1600 block of McGraw Road in the Town of Sullivan, open. When the homeowner entered the door, fragments of the inner door casing and door hardware were on the floor.

Taken in the McGraw Road burglary were several firearms including a Mossberg bolt-action shotgun, Ruger M22 .22 caliber rifle, Remington 870 pump-action 12 ga. shotgun, Ruger 7 mm. scoped rifle and a camouflaged Daisy BB gun.

“These stolen firearms have created a sense of utmost urgency,” said investigators.

The investigation is ongoing by Madison County Sheriff’s deputies, crime scene technicians and investigators into both of these incidents.
