Solvay, Westhill/Ludden boys share indoor track title

Both sides get 93 points; West Genny takes fourth

— Though they each displayed their own strengths in their own events, the Solvay and Westhill/Bishop Ludden boys indoor track and field teams ended up in the exact same spot atop the standings at the end of Wednesday night's OHSL Liberty/Patriot division championship meet at SRC Arena.

With equal totals of 93 points, the Bearcats and Warriors headed a 12-team pack. Marcellus, with 27 points, lagged back in eighth place as Jordan-Elbridge earned 12 points.

Solvay sprinter Nick Cometti won the 55-meter dash in 6.74 seconds, where Will Coon (Marcellus) was sixth, and added a victory in the 300-meter dash in 37.47 seconds, with two Westhill/Ludden runners, Christian St. Amour (38.09 seconds) and Ben Rath (38.53 seconds), right behind.

Cometti's teammate, Eric Goodrich, won the 600-meter run, topping Marcellus' Justin Garn, 1:28.89 to 1:29.43, with Westhill/Ludden teammates Xavier Fleurinor and Peter Guy third and fourth, respectively.

Guy, joined by Rath, St. Amour and John Ringwood, won the 4x200 relay for Westhill/Ludden in 1:39.40, where Marcellus was third in 1:41.24. It also rose to third place in the 4x400 relay in 3:50.15, just ahead of Solvay (3:52.15) in fourth.

For Westhill/Ludden, Casey Bunce, in the 1,000-meter run, prevailed in 2:48.13, leaving the Bearcats' Matt Battaglia (2:49.51) in third as J-E's Nathan Hollis was fifth. Fleurinor added a second in the 55-meter hurdles in 8.75 seconds, with Solvay's Josh Marotti third in 8.78 seconds.

Ryan Manahan gave Marcellus a victory in the mile in 4:31.48, leaving Bunce (4:51.48) far back in second place and Peter Lynch (4:52.58) in third. Lynch did get second place in the 3,200-meter run in 10:24.64, with Liam Rodgers (10:59.93) in fourth as Solvay's Colton Francemone snatched a point for sixth place.

J-E got most of its points from the 4x800 relay, where Bill DiRenzo, Dylan Whittico, Austin Milton and Jack Gugel prevailed in 8:40.97, welll clear of runner-up Hannibal (8:55.71). Westhill/Ludden got third place (8:59.49), with Solvay fifth.
