Baldwinsville The Baldwinsville Optimist Club is pleased to announce that Maggie Tarsel has been named the club’s Student of the Month for December.
Tarsel is a senior at Baker High School who is in a college preparatory track and has distinguished herself academically by regularly being on the school honor rolls and by being inducted into the National Honor Society in her junior year. She is currently taking calculus, contemporary literature, government and economics, forensic sciences and advanced placement Spanish.
A varsity member of the Baker High School girls soccer and girls track teams, Tarsel is also a musician playing the violin in the Baldwinsville Central School District Orchestra.
Tarsel has proven her leadership skills and abilities by being elected to and serving on her senior class council as well as the student council. Other extra-curricular activities that she participates in include: Jenna’s Mentors; the Baker High Math League; and the Baker High School Transition Team. Her “caring for others” is further demonstrated by the fact that she is a regular American Red Cross blood donor.
A part-time employee at Hollister Clothing Store, Tarsel is also the general manager of WBXL “The Buzz,” which is the radio station that is broadcast live from Baker High School daily.
Tarsel plans to attend college following her graduation from high school and is considering at least four colleges where she hopes to pursue the fields of communications and/or business.
Tarsel is the daughter of Eileen and Michael Tarsel and has a sister Molly, a brother Michael (Mick) and stepdad, Mark Degon.
The Student of the Month Program is a cooperative venture of the Baldwinsville Optimist Club and the guidance counselors of Baker High School.
