CBA/J-D hockey knocks off Oswego, 2-1

Brothers enter title contention with win over sectional champs

Held without a goal in the second period as the gap closed to 3-2, CBA/J-D kept calm, and clamped down on defense In the final period, turning back everything as the Brothers tacked on a pair of insurance goals.

Durkin, who scored twice, and Firman, with a goal and two assists, led a well-balanced CBA/J-D offense. Jed Raby and Peter Dziergas also found the net, with Braeden Doust contributing an assist to the effort.

As CBA/J-D was knocking off Oswego, Fayetteville-Manlius took its turn against Cazenovia and also prevailed, working hard to beat the Lakers 5-4.

F-M needed the win, since it had fallen 4-3 to Ithaca last Monday night at Cornell University’s Lynah Rink despite taking 31 shots to the Little Red’s 22.

Mostly, the Hornets lost because it couldn’t stop Ithaca forward Wilson Gearhart, who produced a three-goal hat trick and assisted on his team’s other goal, by Chandler Pfaff.

Anthony Angello had a part in every F-M scoring play, earning one goal and assisting on tallies from Trevor Chase and Mateo Capriotti. Garrett DuMond also had two assists.

After playing Watertown IHC on Monday, the Hornets take a shot at state no. 4-ranked Cicero-North Syracuse next Thursday at the Cicero Twin Rinks facility both sides call home.
