Obama signs bill honoring Cpl. Kyle R. Schneider

— During the last week of 2012, President Barack Obama signed a bill (H.R. 5837) designating the postal facility at 26 East Genesee St., Baldwinsville, as the "Corporal Kyle Schneider Post Office Building" into law.

“Corporal Kyle R. Schneider is an American hero and I am so pleased that President Obama signed this legislation honoring him into law,” said Ann Marie Buerkle, who introduced the bill while representing New York’s 25th Congressional District. “Kyle is greatly missed, and while nothing can ever diminish the grief of those who knew and loved him, I hope that this small token will serve as a reminder of how appreciative his community and country are for his service and sacrifice. In his death, Kyle has earned the thanks of a grateful nation. We must never forget his sacrifice and that of his family and loved ones.”

A Baldwinsville native, Schneider joined the joined the United States Marine Corps in 2008. In January 2011, he was assigned to 3rd Platoon and deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. In defense of the United States, Kyle was killed in Helmand Province Afghanistan on June 30, 2011, by an improvised explosive device. He was 23 years old.
