Hall named B’ville Optimists’ student of February

— Baker High School senior Jennifer Hall has been selected the Baldwinsville Optimist Club’s Student of the Month for February.

Hall is a very good representative of the well-rounded, caring, top-notch students that local schools are preparing as future citizens in our communities and country.

Academically, she has a 97.15 Grade Point Average having taken a variety of courses that will lead to her earning an Advanced Regents with Honors designation diploma upon graduation this spring. She is enrolled in Advanced Placement French, Advanced Placement Biology, stage and screen (English), participation in government and economics, chamber choir, M. S. Office (business), and cooking classes. She is a member of the National Honor Society having previously been inducted into the Junior National Honor Society as well. She has been and continues to support the French program and will travel to France with a group from the program this coming summer.

Hall is a vocalist singing alto in the Baker High Chamber Choir and in Company B, the vocal jazz group. She also has had supporting roles in four school musicals: “Curtains,” “Titanic,” “Sweeney Todd” and “42nd Street.” She has participated in three All-County Choirs and four NYSSMA competitions.

Her extra-curricular activities also demonstrate that Jenny is a leader and giver who enjoys helping people and causes. She has been a student council member since her sophomore year and is vice president of the Student Council this year. She is one of the Jenna’s Mentors who volunteers her time to speak to students in the middle school about school issues such as bullying and other undesirable behaviors. She volunteers for the guidance department giving tours and answering questions for incoming students to Baker High and through her engaging personality puts new students and their parents from all backgrounds at ease.

Outside of school, Hall volunteers at the Rosemond Gifford Zoo during the summers for zoo camp and for special events such as the “Zoo Boo!!” She has been a team captain for three years for the “Relay for Life” cancer fundraiser also helping with organizing and coordinating fundraising for that event each year. She is active in her Dewitt Community Church having worked on helping on clean-up and fix-up projects for people in Syracuse and also in the Queens borough of New York City.

Hall plans to major in zoology in college next year having shadowed some of the professionals at work at the Gifford Zoo and is considering three colleges for the pursuit of that major. Hall’s parents are Ben and Julie Hall and she has an older sister, Sarah, who is currently attending college.

The Student of the Month program is a joint project of the Baldwinsville Optimist Club and the guidance department of Baker High School.
