Cazenovia The Cazenovia Village Planning Board met Monday, Feb. 11, and held public hearings to discuss a proposed special permit for Cazenovia Community Preschool’s new location as well as an informational session regarding Empire Brewery’s Cazenovia farm brewery location.
Cazenovia Community Preschool Director Stephanie Lints presented the tentative location for the preschool at 49 Burton St., near Burton Street Elementary School. The school currently is renting a location on Lincklaen Street from Cazenovia College, but with rental prices continually increasing purchasing its own property would be a great financial benefit to the school.
“Over the past 43 years we have always rented a facility, but rent is getting more and more expensive and in order for us to keep to our mission, purchasing a permanent home so we don’t have to keep moving or paying a sky-high rent is ideal,” Lints said.
She addressed logistical concerns brought forward by the board and the public like child pick-up and employee parking. Both issues will be facilitated by Burton Street, and CCP is working with Superintendant Bob Dubik to make this possible, Lints said.
She also addressed concerns from the public regarding industrial traffic by explaining that children will never leave the fenced-in premises of the school until they are picked up and accompanied from the premises by an adult.
The board was not able to approve the application for a special permit for the school because public notice of the meeting was not posted on the property in question and the site plan did not include specific fence dimensions that the board requires to make a proper assessment. A private school is one of the approved uses of the location at 49 Burton Street but a special permit is required.
A special public hearing to discuss this issue was scheduled for 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 25, at the meeting room in the village offices.
