Empire Brewery a big positive for Caz and local agri-tourism

To the editor:

The new agri-business trail that is running through the area is a welcome growth to the Cazenovia community and surrounding areas. First we had Critz Farm, which was the leader in community-friendly agri-business, then the new Owera Winery opening this spring near the intersection of North Lake and East Lake roads.

Now the new exciting plans for the Empire Brewery agri-business which we hope will break ground soon with a new community-friendly complex just south of the village on route 13. Down the road in Hamilton the small craft brewery called Good Nature Brewing is also a pleasant addition to the area.

The area is getting back to its former roots of the past which is exciting for the residents who live in and around the greater Cazenovia area. Several locals have even started growing their own hops which is used in the beer-making process. Meadows Farm is producing the much-enjoyed Kobe beef that is a favorite of the meat lovers. Outlying farms in addition to local dairy farms are growing organic vegetables, various cheeses and lamb products from the local sheep.

The world is a hectic place and it is nice to know we can step back and look at the wondrous benefits we have in our own back yard, which much of the world does not have the pleasure of enjoying. The agri-tourism, the new jobs created and the wonderful natural products, in my mind, should be warmly embraced by everyone as this type of change is good and only enhances the reason we all live and enjoy Cazenovia and the surrounding area.
