LETTERS: Injustice in Lysander

— I was appalled to hear what went on in Lysander Town court a few weeks ago.

A man was brought into to court to face an order of protection violation. The "honorable" judge informed this man that if "any of his little friends" do anything to further harass the person with the order of protection, the defendant would be held accountable. When the defendant asked the judge if he should be hearing this case because the judge's wife had written a letter against the defendant when he was running a campaign two years ago, the judge said that he has no control over his wife and that will not affect his ability to make decisions in his court.

I have two questions for the residents of Lysander: If the judge cannot be accountable for his wife, why is the defendant accountable for his friends? Is this the kind of justice, or injustice, we want in Lysander?

Please think about this when you are mulling over candidates for the upcoming election this fall. I am hoping with the winds of change in Lysander politics, new people step up to run for the open positions this fall.
