Beaver Lake Nature Center - February schedule

Grapes on ice this Friday

A Natural Valentine

Beaver Lake Nature Center offers the perfect way to spend Valentine's evening. At 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 14, a naturalist will guide couples on a moonlit hike through serene, wintry woods. After the walk, which will be on snowshoes if there is snow, couples will gather back at the nature center for live music, decadent desserts and flavored coffees to savor in front of a warm fire. Registration required; $30 per couple.

Snowshoe Feast

At 6 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 16, Beaver Lake Nature Center's Snowshoe Feast will capture the flavor of a winter's night in the northern woods. After enjoying a hearty meal, participants will venture out on a guided hike in the frozen woods, which will be on snowshoes if there is sufficient snow. A crackling fire and Colin Aberdeen's guitar welcomes guests back inside for dessert. Registration required; $25.

Winter break camp

Beaver Lake Nature Center welcomes all third, fourth and fifth graders for a week of fun, wintry activities from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Feb. 18 to 22. Each day will be packed with games, nature crafts and outdoor adventures. Register for just one day or all five; registration required, $30 per child, per day.

Tracking wildlife on snowshoes

Beaver Lake Nature Center invites visitors to join a naturalist for tracking wildlife on snowshoes at 2 p.m. every Saturday and Sunday in February. FREE; registration required – call the nature center to register, beginning at 8 a.m. the day of the hike, and to check snow conditions. While this program will be offered regardless of snow cover, it will only be on snowshoes when snow conditions are acceptable.

Ski 100 miles

Beaver Lake Nature Center offers Ski 100 Miles, an incentive to get out and enjoy the nature center's trails this winter. Cross-country skiers can sign up to record ski mileage in a personal logbook and stamp in the date at the front desk for verification. When a skier has accumulated 100 miles, he/she will be rewarded with a long-sleeve T-shirt proclaiming "I Skied 100 Miles at Beaver Lake Nature Center." The registration fee is $10; no time limit to reach the 100-mile goal.
