League of Women Voters to host presentation on CNY regional sustainability plan

— The League of Woman Voters of Cazenovia is sponsoring a special task force presentation titled, “The Central New York Regional Sustainability Plan,” presented by Chris Carrick, to educate the public on how the regional plan impacts Cazenovia, Madison County and all of Central New York. The event will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 14, in the Cazenovia Public Library community room.

The Central New York Regional Sustainability Plan (Vision CNY) was prepared by municipalities and stakeholders during a year-long initiative led by the CNY Regional Planning and Development Board (CNY RPDB). At the direction of Governor Cuomo, Central New York and nine additional regions throughout New York state developed long-range plans that now serve as a foundation for environmental protection, energy sustainability, municipal land use and community based planning. Each plan contains goals, strategies and project recommendations that support a sustainable future for New York state.

The Jan. 14 guest speaker, Chris Carrick, is the energy program manager at the CNY RPDB and serves as NYSERDA’s regional outreach coordinator. He is actively involved in the development of clean energy projects throughout the region. Carrick manages the Regional Planning Board’s Climate Change Innovation Program (C2IP), which provides financial and technical assistance for municipalities to reduce energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions through the preparation of climate protection plans, the implementation of clean energy demonstration projects and the revision of land use policies for climate-friendly development.

The Cazenovia League of Women Voters, with support from the CNY Regional Planning and Development Board, recently formed a Climate Task Force in order to understand how climate change is affecting Central New York. Through research and education, the task force hopes to raise awareness of the causes and impacts of climate change, while building support for effective solutions.

All are welcome to attend the Jan. 14 event at the library.
