C-NS, Liverpool wrestlers earn league wins

Northstars rout West Genny; Warriors handle Central Square

Between league meets and Saturday tournaments, the Cicero-North Syracuse and Liverpool wrestling teams were very busy in a four-day stretch leading up to the holiday school break.

It all started last Wednesday night, when the Northstars visited West Genesee and provided strong bookends in the course of beating the Wildcats 59-18.

Opening at 126 pounds, C-NS won the first three bouts. Richard Dennis, at 126, rolled past Casey Bedell 11-1, while Brandon Burnham (132 pounds) took a forfeit and Joe Copani, at 138 pounds, held on for a 6-4 victory over Odae Badwan.

Then, from 220 pounds until the 120-pound finale, the Northstars went a perfect six-for-six. Andres Anoceto began that string at 220, handling Keisean Canery 10-1, before Jared West (285 pounds) pinned Ethan Coates in 41 seconds.

David Ciciarelli, at 99 pounds, took just 62 seconds to finish off Marcello Barbuto. Forfeits to Ray Sorenson (106 pounds) and Anthony DiMaria (113 pounds) followed, and at 120 Joe Barber finished it off, taking 1:52 to pin Mike Linton.

In the six matches in between, WG did win four times, but two of them were forfeits. Plus, the Northstars still interceded at 160 pounds, where Anthony Carella pinned Shayne Middleton with 38 seconds left, and 170 pounds, where Sam Ruiz claimed yet another forfeit.

Then, when it was Liverpool’s turn to face Central Square Thursday night, it used a sweep of the four highest weight classes to put away the Red Hawks in a 48-26 verdict.

Two of those matches didn’t take long. Louis Ragonese, at 182, needed just 36 seconds to pin Tyler Seaone, while David Carnie (285) earned his fall over Cody Stone in 1:09.

In between those bouts, it proved a lot closer for Mark Williamson (195) and Ron Wilson (220). Williamson stayed patient and pulled out a 2-0 decision over Justin Lanning, while Wilson, with a point in overtime, edged past Elijah Sampo 5-4.
