Marcellus girls start 2-0, roll past Cazenovia

J-E improves dramatically in early defeat to Solvay

Striving to end its long skid, J-E ate into that deficit and only trailed by two, 44-42, going to the fourth quarter before the nervous Bearcats finally put things away down the stretch.

Delperuto led the way, managing a career-best 30 points, adding six steals, five rebounds and three assists. Gardner managed a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds, while Gianna Pennisi also had 11 rebounds and Kelly Nolan added 10 points.

On the Eagles’ side, Morgan Conroy led the long-awaited offensive breakout, making five 3-pointers and gaining 17 points overall, while Alexis Rouse poured in 15 points.

To bring the circle together, Marcellus, on Friday night, hosted the same Cazenovia side that beat Sovlay earlier in the week - and fared a lot better than the Bearcats did, rolling past the Lakers 50-26.

From start to finish, the Mustangs’ defense was terrific, continually limiting Cazenovia’s chances. That was due to strong rebounding as MacLachlan grabbed 10 boards and Erica Balman picked up nine boards to dominate the paint. MacLachlan also nabbed five steals.

But the Mustangs still needed a 14-6 spurt through the third quarter to take charge for good. Mosher led the way with 11 points, with Lauren Soule adding 10 points. MacLachlan managed seven points, just ahead of Shelby Nye’s total of six points.
