continued In last Wednesday night’s season opener, CBA/J-D faced Homer, and after a slow start, it took over with seven consecutive match victories in the middle stages, leading to a 51-31 victory over the Trojans.
They started at 132 pounds, where Dustin Harris claimed a forfeit. Homer then won the next four matches, the closest of them at 145 pounds, where Matt Lauro lost a 6-1 decision to Matt Norris.
But when Tucker Benedict, at 170 pounds, finished off a 16-0 technical fall over Nick Kinney with 15 seconds left, CBA/J-D began its decisive spurt.
George Kassis (182 pounds) and Mark Friske (195 pounds) both claimed forfeits. Then, at 220 pounds, David Sayre took just 42 seconds to pin Reno Gaffney before Honis, bumped up to the heavyweight division (285 pounds), pinned Mike Eichorst in 1:23.
Matt Griffin worked even faster at 99 pounds, getting a 16-second pin over Tristen Brown, before Tyler Glowaki (106 pounds) took another forfeit. Another CBA/J-D veteran, Arsen Bagiryan, closed it out at 126 pounds with a 12-1 romp over Collin Baker.
