Letter to the editor:
Thank you for your wonderful article about domestic adoption and New Hope Family Services! I was adopted and have always been grateful to my birth mother for having the courage to give me up at 6 months old.
I sat with each one of my own children on their half-year birthday and thanked her in my mind, wondering what she had gone through after nursing me and bonding for so long.
Had I been created years later, she may have had the choice of abortion versus adoption.
Sixty years later I found her family and was able to rejoice with them because of the open adoption policy of the country in which I was born and adopted.
We are indeed fortunate to have such an organization in our community so that moms-in-need have an alternative for life! There may be regrets, but they will always know that they did the right thing. The trauma of the ‘other choice’ will stay with the woman for the rest of her life - and so will a deep, sorrowful regret. Choose life!
