Grimes boys hoops wins Oneida Tournament

Steinberg named MVP with 40 points against Oneida, Cortland

— Again, strong defense got Grimes in front, as it held the Purple Tigers to seven points in the first quarter. Despite that, Cortland rallied within two, 25-23, at halftime, before going cold again in the third period, allowing the Cobras to restore its margin.

Gradually, Grimes got away in the latter stages. Steinberg had 18 points and 11 rebounds, and was an easy choice for tournament MVP. Joe Arrigo, held to three points against Oneida, picked up 15 points on this night to join Steinberg on the All-Tournament team. A.C. Ater had seven points and Akol Ater contributed six points.

On Wednesday night, Grimes has its home opener, taking on Hannibal before a Friday visit to OHSL Liberty division newcomer Altmar-Parish-Williamstown.
