It was a close game until the fourth. With Onondaga clinging to a 2-1 lead, J.T. Quinn (Fayetteville-Manlius) delivered his biggest hit of the tournament, a bases-clearing double that scored three runs - the eventual margin of victory. Walsh also had an RBI as Avery Brooks (Henninger) scored three times.
With the top seed sewn up, Onondaga could now relax a bit. Its quest to go undefeated through the American division fell short as it lost, 6-5, to host Covington County (Ala.) on Monday night.
As the top team in the National division, Mid-County (Texas) also earned a bye straight into the semifinals. Mid-County and Onondaga now awaited the results of Tuesday's elimination-round games between the second and third-place finishers in each of the two divisions.
