Michael Stern, 24, of Elbridge, was arrested and charged with vehicular manslaughter by New York State Police yesterday.
Stern was the driver of a 2004 Toyota Sienna van that was traveling north on Jordan Road in the town of Skaneateles and collided with a 2011 Kenworth tractor-trailer at 1:59 a.m. on April 24. Patrick Hallinan, 26, who was sitting in the passenger seat of the van, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. After further investigation of the incident, police determined that Stern was intoxicated at the time of the accident.
He was charged with second-degree vehicular manslaughter, driving while intoxicated and travelling at an unsafe speed. He was arraigned in Skaneateles town court and remanded to the Onondaga County Justice Center where he is being held on $1,000 cash bail. He is scheduled to return to court on Monday, Aug. 19.
