Liverpool girls lax tops RFA, Syracuse

Warriors take four-game win streak into C-NS rematch

The Liverpool girls lacrosse team fed off momentum from big wins over Fayetteville-Manlius and Watertown the week before and made it four in a row in the last full week of April.

The Warriors returned to the field last Tuesday night at LHS Stadium with a 15-2 romp over Rome Free Academy. Pitching a first-half shutout, the Warriors were up 11-0 at the break before easing up late.

By the time that happened, Mallorie O’Brien had accumulated four goals and two assists, with Kasi Cabrey and Jessica Attaway each scoring twice.

Lauren Mancini had a team-high three assists to go with her lone goal. Meghan DiMarco, Alexis Kline, Rachel Kline, Natalie Parkins, Sierra DiPietro, Jen Kershner and Farrah Ziaie took turns getting goals as Liverpool took 26 shots to RFA’s six.

Liverpool’s fourth straight win came on Thursday night, when it went to Nottingham and beat the combined Syracuse city team by a 14-7 margin.

This was, for the most part, Mancini’s show. All she did was set a career mark with eight assists, to go with two goals, as the Warriors steadily pulled away in an active second half after battling its way to a 5-2 halftime edge.

And the best part of Mancini’s work was that she spread her passes around. Only Cabrey scored three times, with DiMarco, O’Brien, Attaway and Alexis Kline joining Mancini in the two-goal column. Rachel Kline managed the other goal and Emily Burns earned two assists.

So the Warriors take a 6-4 mark into Tuesday night’s home tilt with rival Cicero-North Syracuse, looking to avenge a 15-8 defeat to those Northstars at Bragman Stadium on April 9. The Warriors also visit Oswego on Friday night.
