F-M girls lacrosse beats J-D, 13-7

CBA romps past Whitesboro, Cortland

Two girls lacrosse neighbors got together on Saturday as Fayetteville-Manlius hosted Jamesville-DeWitt, and it was the Hornets coming out on top by a score of 13-7.

A key to the outcome was the way F-M’s defense played in the first half. Anchored by goalie Aubrey Deveau, who finished with seven saves, the Hornets never let the Red Rams get too close or get too productive.

Thus, F-M (6-3) could afford to see its attack patiently kick into gear and still carry a 5-2 lead to the break. Even as J-D (4-6) started to put a consistent offense together in the latter stages, the Hornets still managed to increase its margin.

Cara Esposito and Marri Ryu each had four goals for the victorious Hornets, while Sam Hotchkiss and Lindsey Trachtenberg had two goals apiece. Meg Fero added a goal and three assists.

On J-D’s side, Sam McKenna had three goals, with Carly Neugebauer finding the net twice. Taylor Fallon got one goal and two assists and Carly Stone also converted.

J-D got back into winning form in last Tuesday’s game against Whitesboro, prevailing 16-5. It took a while, though, as Amanda Chruscicki’s two goals and one assist had the Warriors within range, 8-5, at halftime, before J-D dominated the last 25 minutes, winning most of the draws and blanking the visitors on the board while going on a closing 8-0 run.

Fallon and McKenna both scored four times, with Fallon adding three assists. Neugebauer and Carly Stone each had two goals, while Kopp, Madi Alfieris, Jackie Halpin and Marissa Wilcox had one goal apiece. Jessica Wipper joined Neugebauer, Alfieris and Kopp in the assist column.

F-M was back in action on Friday, roaring past Rome Free Academy 15-7. That was mostly a product of what took place in the first half as the Hornets bolted out to a 12-3 halftime lead, led by Lindsey Trachtenberg, who piled up four goals and three assists.
