Marcellus, Westhill split track showdown

Garn sweeps girls distance events; Wilkinson also triple winner

— When they got together for a key OHSL Liberty division meet Wednesday afternoon, the Marcellus and Westhill/Bishop Ludden track and field teams both ended up happy.

In the girls meet, Rachel Garn’s sweep of the distance running events helped the Mustangs prevail 83-58, but it was Westhill/Ludden, led by Corey Wilkinson, taking the boys meet 88-53.

By the time she was done in the girls meet, Garn had run 800 meters in 2:39.3, covered 1,500 meters in 5:22.7 and beaten the field in the 3,000-meter run in 11:43.2, one of three different Mustangs with multiple wins.

Abbie Fallon was victorious in the 100-meter dash in 13.4 seconds, and followed it up by going 13 feet 9 inches to win the long jump. Zoe Higgins emerged with a first-place time of 18.1 seconds in the 100-meter hurdles and also took the 400 hurdles in 1:13.4.

Eliza Bell claimed the 200-meter dash in 28.7 seconds. Haley Randall, Emma Blystone, Nellie Ramsden and Shannon Twombly took first in the 4x100 relay (56.1 seconds) as Alex Kinsella went 28’3” and prevailed in the triple jump. Johanna Sylcox won the shot put, heaving it 32’7”.

On Westhill/Ludden’s side, Mary Kate Washburn earned first place in the 400-meter dash in 1:05.4 and cleared 7 feet to win the pole vault. Erin Christensen took the high jump (5 feet) as Kayla Wild threw the discus 78’4”. Christensen, Emily Washburn, Molly Clark and Caroline Coates worked together and took the 4x800 relay in 10:26.4.

Moving to the boys meet, Corey Wilkinson won a tight 100 sprint over teammate Antoine Montgomery, though both finished in 11.4 seconds. And Wilkinson again dominated the throwing events, with a 47-foot shot put toss and a winning discus throw of 147’5”.

Montgomery did win the triple jump, going 38’4”, while Christian St. Amour took the 200 (23.3 seconds) and 400 (54.9 seconds) sprints, teaming with Montgomery, Wilkinson and Mike Crisalli to win the 4x100 in 45.1 seconds.
