ESM girls lacrosse holds off J-D

Spartans stop Rams for eighth straight win

— The Spartans earned its sixth victory in a row last Monday night, at Homer, employing its usual method of productive offense and strong defense to beat the Trojans 13-6.

ESM doubled Homer’s production as it surged to an 8-4 halftime lead. That was far from comfortable, but the Spartans’ defense, anchored by goalie Courtnee Notaro (nine saves), made sure that the Trojans never made a serious late push.

Meanwhile, Dooling was putting in five goals and one assist, while Nicole DeVona scored four times. Toole contributed two goals and two assists as LeGro and Bridget Maring earned single goals. Young, Haley DeVona and Kate McGarrity had one assist apiece.

J-D also got back into winning form in last Tuesday’s game against Whitesboro, prevailing 16-5.

It took a while, though, as Amanda Chruscicki’s two goals and one assist had the Warriors within range, 8-5, at halftime, before J-D dominated the last 25 minutes, winning most of the draws and blanking the visitors on the board while going on a closing 8-0 run.

Fallon and McKenna both scored four times, with Fallon adding three assists. Neugebauer and Carly Stone each had two goals, while Kopp, Madi Alfieris, Jackie Halpin and Marissa Wilcox had one goal apiece. Jessica Wipper joined Neugebauer, Alfieris and Kopp in the assist column.
