J-D track teams earn sweep over CBA

Sturgeon, Hohreiter, Vasiliou, Fairbanks among multiple winners

— High winds greeted the Jamesville-DeWitt and Christian Brothers Academy boys track and field teams for their head-to-head meet last Thursday afternoon, which also included Fowler.

The Red Rams would sweep the boys portion, turning back the Brothers 85-38 and topping the Falcons 87-36. CBA also beat Fowler, by a more modest 57-51 margin.

Nate Sturgeon and Will Hohreiter both won twice for J-D. Sturgeon covered the 110 high hurdles in 18.7 seconds and went on to take the 400 hurdles in 1:10.3, while Hohreiter prevailed in the mile (5:08.9) and also beat the field in the 3,200-meter run in 11:35.1.

Dylan Volk added a victory in the triple jump, going 40 feet 2 inches, with Zach Liebmann sprinting to first place in the 400-meter dash in 55.2 seconds.

Taumeras Howard won the 100-meter dash (12.2 seconds) and joined Sturgeon, Liebmann and Sean Mulvihill as J-D took the 4x100 relay in 45.2 seconds. Hohreiter, Samuel Dye, Austin Philleo and Nick Harron won the 4x800 relay in 9:28.5.

CBA’s Will Brower gave his side a victory in the 800-meter run in 2:13.8, and also ran a leg in the 4x400 relay, where the Brothers, with Brower, Jack Lenkiewicz and David Carey, got first place in 3:55.6. Connor Agnew prevailed in the shot put, heaving it 44’3 ½”.

This followed, by two days, the girls meet between J-D and CBA, dominated by the Red Rams as it beat the Brothers 106-15 while also ripping past Fowler 112-8. CBA beat the Falcons 52-37.

Rachel Fairbanks ran to first place in both the 800 (2:38 flat) and 1,500-meter run, which she took in 5:47.1. In the 4x400, Fairbanks joined Emilee Carpenter, Laura Wengert and Casey Keane as J-D prevailed in 4:44.3, with Samantha Clemons and Hannah Stelf helping Wengert and Carpenter take the 4x800 in 10:53.4.
