Nik and the Nice Guys ready to rock the Firefighter’s Ball

— Nik and the Nice Guys, one of America’s favorite party bands, will once again perform at the Cazenovia Fire Department’s Firefighters’ Ball on Saturday, April 27. The event will be held at the firehouse from 8 p.m. until 12 a.m. and is open to those 21 years of age and older.

Advance sale tickets will be sold on Wednesday and Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the firehouse as well as from 8 to 12 p.m. the day of the event for $20. Tickets are also available at the Lincklaen House and Caz Sports Bowl, and will be available at the door for $25 while supplies last.

The Firefighters’ Ball, which began in 1856, is the longest standing tradition in the Cazenovia community. It serves as the only fundraiser for this all-volunteer department.

Contributions from this fundraiser have enabled the Cazenovia Fire Department to acquire essential firefighting and rescue equipment and provide invaluable training experiences, according to fire department spokesman and past Chief Thomas Tait. With a diminishing number of individuals willing to volunteer for the fire department, specifically in the capacity of an interior firefighter, it is more important than ever to provide the safest and most efficient tools and equipment possible, Tait said.

A portion of the proceeds from this year’s Firefighters’ Ball will be used to purchase updated equipment for the dive team, cold water rescue team and rope repelling team. Each of these items is essential for the department to provide protection for the people and property of the Cazenovia Fire District.

Tait is occasionally asked who protects the Cazenovia Fire District the night of the Firefighters’ Ball. “We are cognizant of this concern, and have always made arrangements to see to it that, regardless of the nature of the emergency, the people and property within the Cazenovia Fire District are protected,” he said.
