Local Zumba fundraiser to benefit cancer research

— Two Cazenovia Zumba instructors have promised to raise $5,000 for cancer research, and are holding a Zumbathon fundraising event this Saturday to accomplish the goal.

Cory Sawyer and Jim Scholefield, who teach Zumba in Cazenovia and Hamilton, will offer a one-hour Zumba class as well as a Zumba Sentao master class from 2 to 6 p.m. Saturday, April 27, at Madison Hall on the Morrisville State College Campus. Suggested donation is $20 for each class. All funds raised will be donated to the Carol M. Baldwin Foundation.

“The dollars donated to the Carol M. Baldwin Breast Cancer Research Fund stay right here in CNY to fund research that will find a cure. That means help for our own family and friends, neighbors and coworkers,” Sawyer said.

Engaged couple Sawyer and Scholefield, who met in Sawyer’s Hamilton Zumba class, will start the dancing with a “Dance Floor Love” DJ Mix she commissioned just for this event. Joining them as guest instructors will be another couple who met through Zumba, Shama Kherica and Scott Greene from Connecticut. Laura Mikols and Felipe Rivera of Manlius will be guest instructing as well.

After the dancing there will be Wine Tasting and appetizers and an opportunity to network with other Zumba lovers. There will also be raffles, including two tickets to the Carol M. Baldwin Gala and Dinner Dance on May 11 — a $350 value.
