Baseball Bees blank Liverpool, 4-0

Blewett strikes out 11, shuts down Warriors

— Two outs later, Pat Merryweather knocked Levanti home with deep shot to left-center that fell for a double. He finished two-for-three at the plate.

The three first-inning runs were all the Bees needed behind Blewett’s strong outing, but the hosts added a fourth run for insurance in the second.

Jake Norton walked and advanced to second when Dodge walked next batter Colin Conklin. Demoski hit a grounder in between shortstop and third base, which Jason Schulz fielded and fired to second baseman Rick Sisto, who misfired on his throw to first, allowing Norton to round third and reach home.

Jackson Hobble came on in the third inning to relieve Dodge, and scattered three hits and a walk over four innings.

“We didn't do the job offensively,” Penafeather said. “You can say it was the pitching. They really kept us off balance, but we didn't make any adjustments.”

Blewett agreed. “Our offense in the first inning was pretty good," he said. "From then on, we struggled a little bit but we'll definitely pick it up."

The Warriors threatened twice late in the game, but Blewett pitched his way out of both jams.

In the fifth, Dalton Horton led off with a single to left and stole second. Then Schulz made contact on a deep bouncer to Savacool at shortstop. Savacool mishandled the bounce and Horton advanced to third.

With runners on the corners, Blewett forced Sisto to ground out to second base and end the inning.

Horton led off the seventh with another single to left. Blewett hit pinch-hitter Dominick Pirozzi with one out, putting runners on first and second. But pinch-hitter Tim Cerniglia bounced a soft grounder to Savacool, who calmly stepped on second and fired to Merryweather to complete the double play.

This, of course, was just the opening act of a crucial week that is scheduled to include, on Thursday afternoon, the Bees' twice-postponed showdown with Cicero-North Syracuse, who improved to 6-0 on Monday with an 8-1 victory over Syracuse West.
