— The Baldwinsville Central School District marching band, the Marching Bees, received an official invitation on April 17 to perform in the 2014 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.

Wesley Whatley, creative director of Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade and head of the Parade’s Band selection committee, made the announcement at Baker High School to music students from Baker High School and Durgee Junior High School. Macy’s has selected the Marching Bees out of hundreds of nationwide applicants to be one of the 10 marching bands in the 2014 Parade.

“We are all truly excited that the marching band has been invited to participate in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade and represent Baldwinsville as well as New York State,” said Superintendent Jeanne Dangle. “This honor has been made possible because of our marching band staff members’ and students’ countless hours of practice and hard work as well as their dedication and the dedication of our parents and the entire school district community to the marching band program.”

"I have dreamed about being in this parade since childhood,” said Casey Vanderstouw, marching band director. “The Macy’s Parade is the pinnacle performance opportunity for the marching arts, and I could not be any prouder of our band program! The Marching Bees will work hard to proudly represent the community of Baldwinsville and the entire state of New York in the most famous parade in the world!”
